Partnerships for Youth: Learning mobilities in Portugal

Portugal

About the project

Partnerships for Youth: Learning mobilities in Portugal brings together the Erasmus+ training courses and youth exchanges in Portugal in which EMOTiC has partnered with Portuguese NGOs. All opportunities are open to people based in Austria, citizens and non-citizens alike, who want to travel to Portugal and learn with young people and youth workers from other countries.

Compared with the other strands, the Portuguese partnerships have had a strong focus on training courses for youth workers and youth leaders. These courses build competences on a chosen theme through a programme based on learning objectives and led by experienced trainers, with a direct effect on participants' future work with young people. As in all Partnerships for Youth projects, each programme lasts 7 to 23 days including travel and mixes workshops, simulations, outdoor activities, field visits and reflection.

The Art of Non-Formal Education in Águeda, from 17 to 23 April 2022, was hosted by Psientífica and the Centro de Juventude de Águeda. It gathered 30 participants to discover non-formal education techniques and tools, practise facilitation, and learn how to design, prepare and run activities, while building collaborative networks between organisations.

From 11 to 18 July 2022, the youth exchange EmpowerMe: Media and Digital Literacy for Inclusion and Diversity took place in Guimarães, hosted by Núcleo de Inclusão, Comunicação e Media on the Azurém campus of the University of Minho. It brought together 45 young people from Austria, France, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain to examine disinformation and discrimination in media and social networks, and how young people can become active agents of inclusion.

The training course Time2Act in Carregal do Sal, hosted by Gap Year Portugal Association, ran twice with EMOTiC as a partner, from 17 to 23 September 2022 and from 2 to 8 May 2023. Each edition gathered 30 participants from ten countries to respond to the social exclusion and poverty of young people, to show their potential as agents of change and to promote public dialogue on the obstacles to youth emancipation.

In Aveiro, from 11 to 17 June 2023, the training course Shaping Through Art, hosted by XX Element Project, brought together 23 participants from Austria, Portugal, Türkiye, Greece, Croatia, Estonia and Romania. It tackled gender stereotypes and inequalities through cinema, film-making and documentaries, supporting the professional development of youth workers in gender equality and combining non-formal education with film art in youth work.

In every project EMOTiC acted as partner and co-beneficiary, running the call in Austria and coordinating the group's travel. Erasmus+ funding from the European Commission covers accommodation, meals and travel, with a small administration fee of 30 to 50 euros for some programmes. Travel costs are refunded after the group returns to Austria. Participants can also receive a Youthpass certificate that recognises what they have learned.
